Bed/Bike for Ed

In conjunction with generous Canadian mattress companies and individuals, we donate new and used good condition mattresses to communities in need in Africa. Many families in rural and city communities have never slept on a proper mattress before, instead sleeping on the floor, a thin mat or no mat at all.

Starting off with one village in Nigeria, we now have been able to donate mattresses to over 7 villages and multiple schools in Nigeria, and many new immigrant and low-income families around the Lower Mainland of BC. Over 3000 mattresses have been donated in the past 3 years. More recently, we have expanded the program to Ghana and we see more expansion coming as other countries have been showing interest in our program.

When the mattresses arrive in Nigeria and Ghana, the ones that are no longer useable for sleeping, are taken to a recycling facility where some parts of the mattress are able to be repurposed as duvets or blankets. Other materials such as springs and foam, are used to make furniture. We reuse as much as possible, and the villagers can sell some of the parts as well, which creates an economic opportunity for them. Our teams on the ground in Nigeria and Ghana are ready to receive and distribute mattresses to those in need.

We understand the importance of a good night’s sleep is invaluable; especially for school children, who are still growing and need the ability to focus in school.

We also accept new and used bikes for donation. With what seems like a simple addition of a bicycle to a family in poor communities, can mean the difference between children going to school or not. Many villages are miles away from the closest school. Having a bicycle to ride to school, helps to ensure that more children can receive an education.

We also donate to new immigrants and new comers from all communities around the Lower Mainland/ Fraser Valley of BC. Please connect with us if you have a need or know someone who does.
