Toyin Kayo-Ajayi

Founder

Toyin started Kara-Kata Afrobeat Band in 2012 with the goal of creating a space of community. He is passionate about serving and uplifting others, honouring and sharing his culture through food and music, and he is a farmer at heart. Originally from Nigeria, Toyin moved to Canada during his professional soccer career over 20 years ago. He played on soccer teams around the globe, including in British Columbia. After his soccer career, Toyin went into farming in Canada, working in dairy farming specifically, for over 10 years where he gained a wealth of knowledge that he is eager to share. He has filmed educational videos where he shares information on farming practices. These videos have gotten a lot of traction in Nigeria and the government has contacted him on several occasions to partner on projects. Toyin has a challenging history, living through much unrest and poverty in Nigeria as a youth. He has always been an innovative and hard working person who serves his community and those in need. Over the years, he has helped many individuals with funds to go to school, for basic needs, and he has built a school in Nigeria among many other selfless acts. He assists his mother in Nigeria to support the widows of the community. In 2017, Kara-Kata Afrobeat Society Canada, become a provincially registered non-profit society.

Jennifer Wilds

Jennifer joined Kara-Kata Afrobeat Society Canada at the beginning of 2019. Since then, she has taken on the role of band manager, and was the main event coordinator for Felabrate 2019 and Kara-Kata’s Black History month 2020 event in Mission, BC. Jennifer has over a decade of experience in administration, customer service and event coordination. She received a Bachelor of Arts in political Science from the American Jewish University and graduated with honors. Jennifer is also an experienced yoga and meditation guide, with over 500 hours of study. She is a Jewellery designer, with her own line, Soulshine Collection. She is passionate about the arts, nature, wellness and creating community. Jennifer brings her creativity, passion and excellent coordination skills to help bring Kara-Kata Afrobeat Society to the next level.

Livingstone Kayo-Ajayi

Livingstone has been with Kara-Kata Afrobeat Society Canada since its inception. He has been the lead on the ground for all Nigerian projects. He brings a wealth of experience in leadership and management. Livingstone is also trained as a Pastor and has lead community outreach programs. He is passionate about farming and serving and uplifting the community.

Sally Anagabah

Research and Administrative Assistant

Sally is from Cameroon and she studied Forest Resource Management at the University of British Columbia. Prior to coming to Canada, she studied at the Africa Leadership Academy in South Africa where she led the student organization Agrinovation which focused on experimenting innovative ways to improve farming methods in the continent. She’s deeply passionate about the environment and ways in which it can be protected.

Ifeiyano Kayo-Ajayi

50 Acres Plus Project (Nigeria)

Ifeiyano has been a part of Kara-Kata Afrobeat Society of Canada since our inception. He has been on the ground in Nigeria working directly with the community and our team to get our projects off the ground. Born and raised in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria, Ife has extensive knowledge of farming in the area and the needs of community members. Ife is also a passionate musician, skilled in traditional instruments and music as well as many other styles, which is a major asset to the music branch of our organization.

Faith Kayo-Ajayi

50 Acres Plus Project (Nigeria)

Faith was born and raised in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. He has been a team member of Kara-Kata Afrobeat Society of Canada since the very beginning. Faith’s knowledge of the local community and farming are a major asset and he work’s directly with the people and the land in our project areas. Faith is also a skilled and creative musician in traditional styles and many others. Additionally, Faith is a very talented digital artist and is the creator of much of our advertising and marketing materials.

Adigun Abolade Oluwapelumi

Coordinator YOTALKPWW (Nigeria)

Adigun studied Agricultural Extension and Rural Development at Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. He is a lover of sound and passionate about the Talking Drum. He loves to write and is a big fan of football. Adigun has been the coordinator of YOTALKPWW since 2018. With his administration and coordination skills, the group has grown exponentially into a worldwide community and family.
