Welcome to Kara-kata Afrobeat Society

We are a non-profit society with a mission to create long term sustainability for the health and well-being of the Black community in Canada. We do this through arts and culture programming, a culturally appropriate food system/farm, community outreach and business mentorships. We invite you to explore our website to learn more. Please feel free to get in touch with us if you have questions or want to get involved.

WHO WE ARE + WHAT WE DO

COMMUNITY, CULTURE, EMPOWERMENT, SELF-SUSTAINABILITY…

Kara-Kata Afrobeat Society of Canada, a not for profit organization. The Kara-Kata Afrobeat Band comprises talented members that span a full multicultural spectrum and each brings their own musical talent and comes from different musical background. The diverse talents and backgrounds knit neatly into a tapestry of musical universe that reflects the very character and tenor of the Afrobeat music genre, created by our inspiration, Fela Kuti. Fela was a human rights and social justice warrior from Nigeria, the home country of our organization Founder and band leader, Toyin Kayo-Ajayi, who inspired people with his music and he still does to this day. Our annual Felabrate celebration is in conjunction with events all around the globe in October every year celebrating Fela’s life and music. Kara-Kata creates community events to bring all people together to share and educate about African culture. We organize and create community outreach and farm projects in Canada and Nigeria for the empowerment and sustainability of the African community.
