Community Outreach

Supporting Our People. Uplifting Our Future.

At Kara-Kata Afrobeat Society of Canada, community care is at the heart of everything we do. Our outreach programs are designed to support the holistic needs of Black, African, and Caribbean (BAC) communities — especially newcomers and youth — through practical assistance, cultural connection, and opportunities for empowerment.

Whether it’s access to food, guidance for starting a new life, or mentorship on the road to self-sufficiency, we walk alongside our community members with dignity, respect, and unwavering support.

Cultural Food Support

Access to culturally appropriate food is a basic human right — not a luxury. That’s why we work closely with the African Foods Foodbank to provide food hampers filled with culturally familiar staples such as yams, cassava, plantain, okra, and African spices.

These hampers are:

  • Designed specifically for BAC families and individuals
  • Available through food distribution events and scheduled pickups
  • A critical resource for newcomers adjusting to life in Canada

Food is more than nourishment — it’s comfort, memory, and a sense of home. We ensure our community can access food that reflects who they are.

Newcomer Support Services

For many Black immigrants and refugees, adjusting to life in Canada comes with overwhelming challenges. Kara-Kata offers hands-on support for newcomers, including:

  • Help accessing basic needs (food, clothing, referrals)
  • Support navigating housing and healthcare systems
  • Culturally informed counselling and advising
  • Community connections and cultural orientation

We meet people where they are, offering a welcoming and culturally safe environment for individuals and families to rebuild and thrive.

Entrepreneurship & Business Mentorship

Economic empowerment is a pillar of true community resilience. Through business mentorship and entrepreneurial advising, Kara-Kata supports individuals with:

  • Starting and growing small businesses
  • Accessing grants and funding opportunities
  • Understanding Canadian business systems
  • Financial literacy and planning
  • Marketing, branding, and networking strategies

Our mentorships are intergenerational, rooted in lived experience, and tailored to the specific needs and talents of our community — from farmers and artists to youth with big dreams.

Empowering Youth

Youth are not just our future — they are our now. That’s why youth participation and leadership nare woven into every aspect of our outreach work. Whether they’re:

  • Receiving culturally relevant food and mentorship,
  • Learning business skills from community elders,
  • Volunteering at distribution events, or
  • Finding safe spaces for cultural pride and self-expression…

…young people are at the core of our vision for a thriving BAC community in Canada.
